New Club House Roof
On a sunny day Mr Jeremy Lefroy MP for Stafford, Mayor & Mayoress Mr Geoffrey Collier & Mrs Catherine Collier along with local Councillor Mrs Carolyn Trowbridge joined invited guests and members of Stafford Bowling Club to celebrate the competition of the Project on Tuesday 21st June 2016.
The President, Mr Peter Atkin welcomed all those present and gave a brief history of bowling and of Stafford Bowling Club which has been at its Newport road site since 1902. Mr Peter Atkin described how the club house had changed since 1902 from the original wooden pavilion to the current brick built club house which now stands proud with a new pitched roof, solar panels and in its centre a New Club House clock. Mr Peter Atkin handed over to Mr Frank James, Chairman of Stafford Bowling Club who expressed on behalf of the club, thanks to all those who were involved with the Club House Roof Project which culminated in Stafford Bowling Club securing a £53,472.00 grant from Sport England to enable the building of a new pitch roof. Mr Frank James paid tribute to Mr Ian Lamond former Chairman who was instrumental in guiding the project from its early conception through to its completion early this year. He sadly informed the gathering that Ian passed away in April, he said Ian was a club member for 33 years, serving as Chairman for 20 years, where Ian was instrumental overseeing various projects such as the watering irrigation system and lighting for the green with the latest one being a lasting testament to Ian’s memory and his service to the club. Ian’s wife Hilary and her family attended in Ian’s memory, the chairman Mr Frank James asked all those gathered to recognise the work Ian undertook to deliver the new Club House Roof with a round of applause. Mr Frank James went on to thank all those who designed and built the new roof and invited all who attended to join him on the green to gather and raise a toast to the completion of the project. A buffet and a games of bowls was enjoyed by all.
